OnePlus 5T first impressions

Display and Design

The first thing that you notice when you look at the smartphone is its screen. It’s a big 6-inch AMOLED screen, which boasts a 2160 x 1080 pixel resolution, which is great. The screen provides great picture quality and vibrant colors as well. The OnePlus 5T has also got a new Sunlight Display feature, which automatically improves the contrast when you are out in the sun. This feature is almost same as the True Tone feature of the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and the iPhone X.

Another thing that you notice when you see the phone is that there’s no fingerprint sensor at the front, instead it has been moved to the back to make room for the larger screen. In terms of the fell, the newest OnePlus flagship doesn’t feel any different from its predecessor. It has got a rounded soundblasted-aluminum chassis with a noticeable camera bump at the back of it. And the best of all the device has got a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is a treat for the music lovers.

New features of the OnePlus 5T

The new OnePlus 5T, has many new features and improvements over its predecessor. Let’s take a look at them.

Face Unlock

The Face Unlock is a new feature that the new 5T comes with. However, let’s be clear that its not like the authentic 3D Face ID that comes with the iPhone X. Face unlock is a basic feature that uses the front camera to create a 2D image of your face and use it to unlock the device. This feature is very fast and the phone can be unlocked faster. It might not be as good as the Face ID but the Face Unlock is more than handy for the people.

New Camera

The OnePlus 5T has two shooters at the back, just like the OnePlus 5. However, the second camera that the 5T comes with is the real difference between both of them. While the primary camera remains unchanged with a 16-megapixel shooter with f/1.7 aperture, the camera next to it is now a 20-megapixel shooter with the same aperture, which replaces the telephoto lens of its predecessor. This new lens also sports a feature called the Intelligent Pixel Technology. The feature combines four photodetector sites on the sensor into one, which makes the pixels larger, like the HTC’s UltraPixel system.

On the right you’ll find the SIM tray and the power button and on the left you find volume buttons and the alert slider. You can also find little antenna bands running along the borders of the phone that integrate well with the design.
