What is MNP or Mobile Number Portability?
MNP is the process that allows you to change your mobile network to another network while retaining your present mobile number. Mobile Number Portability is a service available across all mobile phone networks throughout the country.

In India, the ‘Donor-Led’ porting system is used, where the customer is required to contact the donor in order to obtain the porting code. Documents Required for getting an MNP
- A self-attested photograph of the sim card owner
- An ID proof along with address proof which contains the required signatures; you can give your Aadhar Card, Voter ID, Driving License, or Bank statement as an address proof in most cases.
- A filled and signed Mobile Number Portability (MNP) form
- A filled and signed customer agreement form
- The number you wish to port, along with operator name and UPC code

General Steps for Porting a Number
To get an MNP done for your mobile number, there are a set of steps that you need to follow. The steps are almost the same as how to port Docomo, irrespective of whichever service provider you belong to and/or wish to port to.
- Send an SMS TO 1900 from your respective mobile number
- You will get a UPC code with an expiry date
- Apply with the same UPC code before the expiry date
- Visit the store of the service provider and complete all formalities
- Buy an MNP SIM card for a minimum fee
- Meanwhile, your new provider will get the necessary information and permissions from your previous service provider
- Then, the new service provider will fix a port time and inform you via SMS
- Your current operator will disconnect phone services cellular services to your existing number for a few hours by sending an SMS
- As soon as the non-service time is over, insert your MNP SIM card in your phone and your new service operator will claim your number, ending in them starting the service soon
How to port Docomo to Idea
In order to port Docomo SIM to Idea, just follow the steps mentioned below.
- Get your UPC (Unique Porting Code) in order to authenticate your ownership to the alternative mobile operator.
- Send an SMS TO 1900 from your respective mobile number
- Your service provider will send a Unique identification code of 8 digits to you
- Once you have the code, go to the nearest retail Idea store and fill out the required forms
- Make sure you submit the required documents, i.e. your ID and address proof. In case you have a postpaid connection, attach your latest mobile bill & last paid bill receipt as well
- You will get an acknowledgment SMS from +1901 on or after 4 days of your request
- You will get a confirmation from the new service provider within 3 days of receiving the acknowledgment SMS
How to port Docomo to BSNL
In order to port Docomo SIM to BSNL, just follow the steps mentioned below.
- Get your UPC (Unique Porting Code) in order to authenticate your ownership to the alternative mobile operator.
- Send an SMS TO 1900 from your respective mobile number
- Your service provider will send a Unique identification code of 8 digits to you
- Once you have the code, go to the nearest retail BSNL store and fill out the required forms
- Make sure you submit the required documents, i.e. your ID and address proof. In case you have a postpaid connection, attach your latest mobile bill & last paid bill receipt as well
- You will get an acknowledgment SMS from +1901 on or after 4 days of your request
- You will get a confirmation from the new service provider within 3 days of receiving the acknowledgment SMS
How to port Docomo to Airtel
In order to port Docomo SIM to Airtel, just follow the steps mentioned below.

- Your service provider will send a Unique identification code of 8 digits to you
- Once you have the code, go to the nearest retail Airtel store and fill out the required forms
